Today we have an addiction epidemic. People's lives are becoming unbalanced, stressed and endangered especially by opiates, but also by overeating, anger, unhealthy relationships and alcohol. Whatever form they take, all addictions are attempts to soothe stress and emotional pain, and all addictions are the result of a biological brain disease.
I have worked for over 40 years counseling people whose addictions had lost them jobs, family, marriages, homes, health, and led to hopelessness, suicidal feelings, troubles with the law and spiritual bankruptcy. Addiction is an equal opportunity destroyer and not age dependent. Using addictive substances at a young age can have long-term and very serious effects on how a person thinks and feels because the brain is still developing. I have a special interest in working with young people. |
